Chapter: Besieged
1010 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

Phoebe had left with the only other 2 knight members left and she said nothing until they were secured in their team locker room where the woman finally allowed her knees to give it and she sunk down onto the bench. “Ask your questions!” She instructed going into team leader mode despite her injuries. There was nothing that was going to kill her there and then. “Let’s get everything out in the open so we can figure it all out see if I have missed anything.” She picked up a stray notebook and tossed it in their general direction so they could take notes.

Andrew wasn't as injured or in as much pain as Phoebe was, but from the faded bruises it was obvious to the other two in the room that he had been in a serious fight in the last couple of days. He followed the other two, his mind running through everything that had happened in the last couple of days. Once Pheobe asked them to speak, he did so, pulling a black pen and notepad from his pocket. "Well, from what I gather Winnifred was either a plant by likely the GOU or another group out to do us damage or had been paid enough to give that group his loyalty." Unconsciously he flexed a fist. "Friday evening during my training exercises, I was interrupted by the english teacher, figuring that something was suspicious, I followed using my powers. This was when I ran into an unknown female assailant, sent by someone to secret Winnifred away with whatever information he could share." He calmed his breathing as a flash of anger crossed his eyes. "She beat me, leaving me unconscious, making me I suppose lucky." There was no guilt in his voice simply a matter-of-fact tone. He knew he wouldn't have been able to help more, as he had been recovering when this woman seemed to have returned.

"I will begin classes on defenses up once again, for those who have not been taking part. I can also offer more in-depth classes on tactics and combat as well." He wasn't sure what else that Phoebe might ask of him, but being that they were two knights down, he already knew things would be rougher before they calmed down, if they ever did with how their worlds were changing. "Do we know what they might have been after?"

"Who cares?" Jonathan snapped. "Cameron's dead. And if I see that whiny, self-centred little sh-" Jonathan's fists flared for a second before he caught himself. As much as his rage was justified, it wasn't helpful. And he was raw; perhaps as raw as he had been since these powers had first manifested. He glared at his own fists, willing them to unfurl. "Whatever they wanted, they probably got it. And took out one of our best in the process."

Phoebe let them rant for a few moments before she sighed. “You are meant to ask me questions about what happened so we can get clear information.” Phoebe said quietly. “They didn’t get anything,” Phoebe said clearer as she shoved the notepad into Jonathan’s hands. “What me and Cam were protecting disappeared with his body.” She added for their clarity.

"Your powers didn't stretch to Cam dying, then..." he grumbled, immediately regretting let the comment slip out. Jonathan's cheeks flushed as he apologetically glanced up at her. "Sorry. That was..." Awkwardly, he let the half-repentance hang and glanced at the pages instead. "One of the kids?" he frowned. "Why didn't we know about this?"

"No you mean it... I get it." Phoebe said gently. "My powers are not all-seeing and they kept seeing something, but I could never grasp it enough to figure it out. And you guys never knew because she is more than all of us and even I did not know the grasp of her abilities." Ji-an was something amazing and she hoped to see her again soon.

Andrew could understand Jonathan's anger, over the years he had dealt with the loss of his father, as well as several people he had served with in the military and finally his first sifu of hapkido. So, the emotions that he was feeling were not unknown to Andrew. However, anger could lead to mistakes, and this was not the time for these emotions. There were two reasons the loss of Cam didn't hit him as heavily as it did the others, first he was still very new to the Institute and second years of training.

In the notepad he had produced, Andrew had written, 'mystery student targeted by the mystery agent and likely the GOU.' Alright, so now came the questions. "Do we know why they wanted this student? How did she escape? What are the next steps?"

"If it's the GOU they'll have their own agenda," Jonathan remarked. "Probably a focus on control and eventually capture. At least, that's the theory. If Ji-an was really that powerful, it makes sense they'd send someone to try to take her. Assuming they knew what she was capable of. We don't know what that jackass traitor fed them."

“Why would they? None of us knew the scope of her abilities or even still do. They weren’t here for her. They must have known there was a secret under the castle and just got lucky.” Phoebe said growing frustrated. They were meant to be helping her debrief but it was not helping her at all right then.

"So, we know little outside of the fact that they were after a specific student, and we currently don't know what they are planning." He didn't know that Phoebe was feeling frustrated, but he could understand it as he was frustrated himself. They didn't know much at all and had limited ways of gaining more information being essentially quarantined to the school grounds. "Phoebe, what do you need us to do?" She was in charge, so being who Andrew was he would take direction and go from there.
