Phoebe had chosen the men as it was easier than the others as they had already sparred many times together. It made sense to start with easier so she did not tire herself out as she had three sessions to run. “You guys nearly ready?” Phoebe asked already in her black outfit. She was stood on the balancing bar psyching herself up to do something more than being just stood there.
"We've been ready ages. Just waiting on you," Jonathan called back. It wasn't exactly true, but the guys were sticking together. "What have you got in mind this time, Phoebe?"
Otis was stretching and bending in ways that were designed to test the movement and flexibility of the new uniform. He had to admit, they had turned out better than he had imagined. The material was soft to the touch but the strategically placed plates would give him enough protection if he was put on his ass. He flexed his fingers, making tiny popping noises as he did so. He could feel the energies of his force field on the peripheral edges of his mind. It was feeling more natural using his powers, almost second nature these days; one of the reasons he had come to the school in the first place. "Want me to take Monroe out again?" He asked teasingly.
"If it will get you both out here completely." The woman said grinning as she flipped forward on the bar with only a grunt of annoyance at the way that the plates on her uniform were not worked in yet. Her new uniform was black trousers, a black zip-up jacket and gauntlets on her lower arms, a side holster that was empty, fingerless gloves, lace-up boots, and a chest harness with a hood attached.
Otis followed Jonathan out of their changing area to where Phoebe was waiting.
"Finally..." She teased as both men came into view. "How does it feel?" She wondered.
"You're extremely impatient for a precog," Otis said jokingly. "They're great, a bit tight around the midriff though," he said as he rubbed the strong-dark material just above where his belly button would be. "Though that may have been a bit of me, to be honest. I don't know what it is about this castle that just makes me want to eat all of the time."
"We seem to be blessed with people who know how to cook," Jonathan replied, snapping his fingers with a tiny burst of flame. "Speaking of which, this new material seems to be pretty fire-resistant. It's strange to think that while the fire doesn't hurt me, it's hard to find clothes that won't just burn straight off. The last thing we want is a wardrobe malfunction during a crisis."
"Just because the rivers of time sometimes control me does not been I cannot be impatient to check everything is in order." The woman commented back with a grin. "They all should have some degree of fire resistance but yours more so as I did not think you would want anyone seeing your bum." She said turning her teasing to him now.
Speak for yourself! Otis thought to himself as he subtly eyed how the new uniform clung to Jonathan's form. "Well Halloween is approaching, I can't think of a better fright than Monroe's bare ass on the battlefield," he said with a smirk. "I am grateful for the fire-resistant material though," he added, thinking about their earlier training session when he was a tad too slow erecting a force field.
"We do not have a healer here full time so I thought it for the best," Phoebe said thoughtfully. It was on her to-do list to arrange for that to change but the person she had in mind had other commitments he had to deal with first. "So moving on from admiring Jonathan's ass... I have set up an obstacle course." She admitted pointing to the space around them. "It is simple and mostly to see how things move."
Jonathan flexed, adjusting to the fit of the gear. "Beats getting knocked around by Sentinels, I guess," he admitted.
"Or me." She added with a wink. "Come on. This won't be painful." The woman had set up a towering wall to scale, monkey bars to conquer, and ropes to swing across. Tire obstacles and balance beams tested their agility, while tunnels and mazes challenged their wits but all of it was designed to challenge them and get them used to outfits.
"Way to sell me out Phobes," Otis said as he felt his cheeks growing warmer, thankfully his darker complexion wouldn't allow him to blush visibly. "Okay, let's do this," he said as he turned his attention to the course that she had set out. He had never been the best at physical exercise but he was a dancer and so was flexible enough. He hoped the two would counterbalance each other.
Phoebe laughed and smacked the man on her back as they moved to the beginning. “We work together.” She added realising she had not mentioned that part. “Testing uniform and working as a team.”
"Good," Otis replied, relieved that he didn't have to compete. "Gives you both a fighting chance. Come on, let's get this over with, some of us like to expand our brain as well as our brawn."
“Fighting talk there dear” Phoebe teased as she lined up looking at the set up that she had arranged. Her brain and brawn was well exercised already but she pulled her hood up to get the real sensation of the outfit.
Otis looked at the first obstacle in their path, a 10-foot wall of solid brick. The idea was for them to climb over it but he had other ideas. Throwing his hands out, he created a force field directly in front of him, then with a slight flick of the wrist he pushed it forward, smashing a near-perfect circular hole in the wall upon contact. He grinned but stopped as he felt Phoebe's eyes burning into the side of his head. "Why go over it when you can go through it," he said casually, a smile on his face. "Come on slow pokes, last one gets the beers."
"You can explain to Claire about the busted wall," Phoebe said slyly as moved past him. He never changed but did she really want him to?
The answer there was no.
